Pre-Operative Instructions
Please review these instructions carefully to ensure a safe and smooth surgical experience.
Required Medical Clearances
- Obtain all necessary medical clearances prior to surgery, including cardiac clearance if you have a history of heart disease, pacemaker, stents, or recent cardiac events.
- Other specialty clearances (e.g., pulmonology, hematology) may be required based on your medical history.
- Bring copies of clearance letters or ensure they are sent directly to the Surgery Center.
Medications & Supplements
- Stop any medications or supplements that may thin your blood at least 7 days prior to your procedure unless otherwise instructed. Examples include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and certain prescription anticoagulants.
- If you are on prescription blood thinners such as warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, or clopidogrel, discuss specific instructions with your prescribing doctor and our surgical team.
Fasting (NPO) Guidelines
- No solid food after midnight before your procedure unless otherwise instructed.
- You may drink water only up until 2 hours before arrival.
GLP-1 Medication Policy
- If you are on GLP-1 receptor agonist medications (e.g., Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro), do not take your injection for 14 days (2 weeks) prior to your procedure.
- If you have taken your GLP-1 injection within 14 days before surgery, you must be on clear liquids only the day before your procedure.
Special Instructions for Prostate Biopsy
If you are scheduled for a prostate biopsy, please use a Fleet's enema exactly 2 hours prior to your scheduled procedure time.
